Ukraine Conducts Drone Attack on Russian Oil Facility

Ukraine has claimed responsibility for a drone attack on an oil facility deep inside Russian territory, according to a military intelligence source in Kyiv who spoke with AFP on Wednesday.

Over the past two months, Kyiv has reportedly intensified its strikes on Russian oil and gas facilities, framing these actions as a "fair" retaliation for previous Russian strikes on Ukraine's own energy infrastructure. The latest drone attack marks a continuation of this retaliatory campaign, further heightening tensions between the two neighboring countries.

The assertion from Ukraine follows reports from the governor of Saint Petersburg, who confirmed a loud blast at an industrial site outside the northern city. Simultaneously, local media reported that S-400 missile systems had engaged a drone, leading to its crash on an oil storage facility in the Nevsky district.

The military intelligence source in Kyiv disclosed that the operation was conducted by Ukraine's military intelligence services, known as GUR. The source emphasized that the targeted facility served "military purposes," implying a strategic motive behind the attack.
