Trump Shrugs Off Nobel Peace Prize Buzz – But Still Wants the Glory

US President Donald Trump says he’s not chasing a Nobel Peace Prize – despite months of hints from his team that he deserves one.

“I have nothing to say about it,” Trump told CBS News in a phone call. “All I can do is put out wars. I don’t seek attention. I just want to save lives.”

But his comments clash with his past boasts. Earlier this year, Trump moaned: “They will never give me a Nobel Peace Prize. I deserve it, but they will never give it.”

Now, Trump is pitching himself as the man who can fix the world’s hottest conflict – Russia vs Ukraine. “Something is going to happen. We are going to get it done,” he declared, revealing he’ll be speaking with pro-Ukraine leaders meeting in Paris this week. His envoy Steve Witkoff is already on the ground.

The Nobel Prize winner will be announced on October 10 – and four US presidents already hold the title, including Barack Obama, one of Trump’s fiercest rivals.

Inside the White House, the push for Trump’s prize is deafening. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed in July it was “well past time” he won. Witkoff even called him the “single finest” Nobel candidate in history during a cabinet meeting last week.

Trump himself has claimed he’s “ended” six or seven wars – including cooling tensions between India and Pakistan – though critics point out many of those conflicts were brief flare-ups, and it’s far from clear his deals will stick.

Still, the ex-reality TV star turned president has friends abroad cheering him on. Israel and Pakistan have both nominated him, and reports say he’s even chatted about it with Norway’s finance minister Jens Stoltenberg.

Whether the Nobel Committee agrees is another matter. But one thing is certain: Trump is making sure the world knows he wants credit for saving it.
