Two people were killed in a Russian airstrike in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region

Authorities say a 50-year-old father and his 11-year-old daughter were killed when Russian forces targeted a residential structure in the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia early on Sunday.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine also announced that a 46-year-old lady, identified as the victims' wife and mother, was retrieved from the wreckage.

Anatoliy Kurtev, the secretary of the city council, reported that during the nocturnal attack, two missiles destroyed one building and damaged dozens more.

He posted on the Telegram messaging service, saying that "severe retribution for the occupiers for this criminal war is imminent."

In the early hours of Sunday morning, rescue workers combed among piles of concrete and other rubble while air-raid sirens wailed once again.

They were a youthful family, said Viktor Hrankin, a 72-year-old neighbour.

The injured woman was rushed to a hospital and was in a bad condition, according to regional governor Yuriy Malashko, who spoke to Reuters.

The attack was the most recent in a slew of recent assaults on local civilian targets as Moscow's extensive invasion enters its second year.

On Sunday, the Russian defence ministry said that it had damaged Ukrainian military storage facilities in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia areas in addition to a depot housing 70,000 tonnes of petroleum close to Zaporizhzhia.
