Shahbaz Sharif took oath as the 23rd PM of Pakistan




Shahbaz Sharif has recently taken oath as the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan. He defeated Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the candidate of Imran Khan's party, by getting 174 votes in Parliament. Before voting in Parliament, all the MPs of Imran Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf boycotted the house, announcing their resignation.



The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has congratulated the new Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif. On the other hand, the MPs of Imran Khan's party PTI have resigned from the National Assembly. Members of Imran Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) boycotted the meeting of the National Assembly convened to elect the new Prime Minister.




  • Shahbaz Sharif was born on 23 September 1951 in Lahore. His father, Muhammad Sharif, was a businessman. His mother was a resident of Pulwama.


  • After graduating from a government university in Lahore, Shahbaz Sharif took over his family business.


  • Shahbaz Sharif is an MP of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the younger brother of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.


  • Since 13 August 2018, Shahbaz Sharif has been a member of the National Assembly and the Leader of the Opposition. Earlier, Shahbaz Sharif had been the Chief Minister of Punjab province three times.


  • He is the longest-serving chief minister of Punjab. At present, Shahbaz Sharif is the president of PML-N.


Shahbaz Sharif has two elder brothers, Abbas Sharif and Nawaz Sharif. Let us tell you that Nawaz Sharif has been the Prime Minister of Pakistan three times.

Shahbaz Sharif came to India in the year 2013. Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister of India at that time. During that time, Shahbaz was the Chief Minister of the Punjab province of Pakistan. After meeting the Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif had talked about working together.



In the 2018 general elections, Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won 149 seats. Shahbaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League (PML-L) got 82 seats, and Bilawal Bhutto's PPP got 54 seats. There is a majority figure of 172 in the 342-member Parliament. Then Imran Khan formed the government with the help of some minor parties and independent candidates.
