Russia Assures India of Full Support in Fight Against Terrorism, Vows Timely Military Deliveries: MoS Sanjay Seth

Moscow/New Delhi, May 11: Russia has reiterated its unwavering support to India in the fight against terrorism in all its forms and has pledged to expedite military deliveries currently in the pipeline, Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth said during his official visit to Moscow.

Seth, who represented India at the 80th anniversary commemorations of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II, held key discussions with Russian Deputy Defence Minister Colonel General Alexander Fomin. The two leaders deliberated on enhancing military and technical cooperation under the existing strategic framework, according to news agency PTI.

"Russia assured that it will support us in our battle against all manifestations of terrorism and said the cooperation between the two nations will continue to advance based on existing agreements," Seth told PTI. He added that Russia has promised to promptly fulfil all pending military orders, a move seen as critical given India’s current defence requirements.

During his visit, Seth also laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, paying homage to the sacrifices of Russian soldiers in World War II. He later addressed members of the Indian community in Moscow, highlighting the strength of Indo-Russian ties.

“The colder the weather in Russia, the warmer the friendship with India,” he remarked, noting the unusually chilly conditions in Moscow for May. Seth also shared his admiration for Russian President Vladimir Putin, describing him as “highly impressive” and “humble.”

India and Russia share a decades-old defence relationship, with cooperation spanning joint military production, technology transfer, and equipment procurement. The recent assurance by Russia comes amid evolving global geopolitical challenges and underscores the importance of continued bilateral engagement.

Seth’s visit marks another step toward bolstering the strategic partnership between the two nations through sustained dialogue and mutual trust.
