ED's action against Washington Post journalist Rana Ayub


The Directorate of Recovery has taken major action against Washington Post journalist and well-known columnist Rana Ayub. He has been charged in a money laundering case.


Rana Ayub, a well-known Washington Post journalist and columnist, was taken into custody by the ED on Thursday and Rs 1.77 crore was frozen. Rana Ayub has been charged in a money laundering case.



Rana Ayub was booked by the Ghaziabad police in Uttar Pradesh last September on a charge of fraud. He was accused of using the money collected in the form of relief funds for himself. A number of issues came to light during the ED's investigation in this regard. A case of money laundering was registered against Rana Ayub on that basis. The investigation also revealed that Rs 1.77 crore had been collected in the form of donations for the relief fund. The account with this amount was finally frozen on Thursday. Rana Ayub is in trouble for receiving donations from abroad without any approval.




Vikas Sankrityayan had lodged a complaint against Rana Ayub. Rana Ayub launched a campaign under different names to raise funds. He illegally collected donations from it and used the money for himself. It was alleged that the matter was illegal and action should be taken in this regard. The case was registered on that basis. The matter is being investigated by the ED and the Income Tax Department and Rana Ayub's financial dealings are being thoroughly investigated. Accordingly, the ED has now taken steps to freeze the amount.

Rana Ayub is in the news for many reasons. He had carried out a sting operation in connection with the alleged fake encounter in Gujarat. Rana Ayub had objected to Amul's advertisement after Article 370 was removed from Kashmir. That also led to controversy. She is constantly criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. That too has often provoked strong reactions.
