The United States has claimed responsibility for killing ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qureshi. US President Joe Biden himself confirmed this in a tweet. "At your behest, US forces have launched counter-terrorism operations in northwestern Syria. "We have killed Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qureshi, the leader of ISIS," Biden tweeted.
"As per my instructions, the US security forces carried out a successful counter-terrorism operation last night.
"Thanks to the Armed Forces for their unparalleled bravery, we have eliminated ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi from the battlefield," Biden said. Earlier, he had spoken about the operation, saying, "God protect our soldiers." At least 13 people, including six children, have been killed in a US-led operation in Syria's rebel-held Idlib province, locals say, according to media reports.
The U.S. military says a car bomb had exploded at an Iraqi police recruiting center at Kisak, west of Baghdad. Troops targeted a building in the city, where thousands were displaced by the fighting. However, the occupants of the building could not be immediately identified. Some reports claim that the target of the operation was ISIL or al-Qaeda leaders. The Pentagon says the US military has carried out a successful counter-terrorism operation.
