Who is Hadi Matar? Traveled 650 km to attack Rushdie

New York: Salman Rushdie, the author of the controversial book 'The Satanic Verses, was fatally attacked. The assailant has now been arrested. A man from New Jersey carried out the attack. After the attack, Rushdie was taken to the hospital by helicopter. Currently, his condition is fragile. Rushdie has received death threats for several years over his" The Satanic Verses." So they were hiding for almost nine years. Fifty-nine people died in the protests after the publication of Rushdie's book.

Rushdie's book The Satanic Verses was published in 1988. The book has since been banned in Iran. In 1989, Iran issued a death warrant against the writer. After this fatwa, there was a political dilemma in the world.



The attacker's name is Hadi Matar, 24 years old. He is a resident of New Jersey. Hadi Matar stabbed Salman 15 times with a knife. Hadi Matar is believed to be pro-Iranian through his social media posts. Salman Rushdie was scheduled to speak at New York's Chautauqua. According to reports, the attacker, Hadi, had driven nearly 650 km from his home in Fairview, New Jersey, to reach New York. Authorities have currently sealed off Hadi's home in New Jersey.



A check on the social media accounts of the attacker Hadi Matar (Salman Rushdie Attacker Hadi Matar), revealed that he sympathizes with Shia and Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Some photos of Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani, who was assassinated in 2020, were found on his phone. Police suspect that Hadi was working alone. Authorities are currently checking his nationality and criminal record.



According to the New York Police, Rushdie was about to give a speech when the assailant ran over him. He stabbed Rushdie in the neck and stomach. His kidneys were also injured in this attack. A bag and some electronic devices were also recovered from the spot. Currently, the investigation is going on in this case, and the exact reason behind the attack has not been revealed yet. Rushdie is currently on a ventilator, and one of his eyes is likely to fail, Rushdie's agent Andrew Wylie has predicted.
