London, UK – A serial rapist convicted last month of attacking 10 women in the United Kingdom and China is now facing additional accusations from 23 more victims, police revealed on Wednesday. Authorities believe the number of unidentified survivors could exceed 50.
The Metropolitan Police Service identified the perpetrator as 28-year-old Zhenhao Zou, a man they described as a “dangerous and prolific sexual predator.” Zou, originally from Dongguan, China, was convicted in March of 11 counts of rape, one count of false imprisonment, three counts of voyeurism, and multiple other offenses, including possession of extreme pornographic images and possession of a controlled substance with intent to commit a sexual offense.
Global Trail of Abuse
Zou had resided in various parts of the world, including China, Belfast in Northern Ireland, and London. Investigators believe he targeted victims using WeChat and dating apps, specifically seeking out students of Chinese heritage. After luring them for drinks, he would drug and assault them in his apartments in London and China. Prosecutors revealed that many victims were “unconscious and rendered defenseless” due to the substances he administered.
Evidence found on Zou’s electronic devices—including video recordings of his assaults—indicates that dozens of women remain unidentified. New accusations have surfaced from women in the UK, China, and other countries. Authorities have urged any additional survivors to come forward through a secure portal.
Manipulation, Voyeurism, and Theft
Zou secretly recorded his assaults using hidden cameras and mobile devices. Police also discovered that he stole personal belongings from his victims, including jewelry and clothing.
A PhD student at University College London, Zou was finally arrested in January 2024 after one of his victims reported him. Law enforcement officials stated that his arrest and subsequent conviction were made possible due to the bravery of the women who stepped forward.
Awaiting Sentencing
Zou is awaiting sentencing, with authorities emphasizing the significance of the survivors’ testimonies in securing his conviction. The UK’s Crown Prosecution Service commended the courage of the women who reported his crimes, stating that their efforts played a crucial role in bringing him to justice.
The Metropolitan Police continue to encourage anyone with information to come forward as they work to ensure justice for all of Zou’s victims.
