Russia claims to have “positive” talks with Ukraine but the war still continues.

Officials from both Russia and Ukraine expressed some hint of optimism on Wednesday, both sides have stated that peace talks are making some progress. Ukrainian President has stated that the negotiations with Russia are heading in a more “realistic direction”. And the Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said that there is “ hope for reaching a compromise.”

Lavrov has said that “ They (Ukraine) state that the negotiations are not easy for the obvious reasons but nevertheless there is some hope for reaching a compromise.” While Mykhailo Podolyak, a Zelensky adviser, and Ukraine lead negotiator in the peace talks stated that “ Russia initially was talking in terms of ultimatums, but now its position has softened significantly.

He also added that Ukraine will witness a cease-fire in the coming days.

However, it is very difficult to state whether the peace talks will have a positive impact on ending the war because Russia is continuing with its invasion and attacks on Ukraine, the Russian military is now heading towards Ukraine's capital Kyiv and other cities have been destroyed.
