Mounting gas supply crisis for Europe

During the current gas supply crisis, the tension is mounting in Europe. Russia has imposed a new set of sanctions on the subsidiaries of state-owned Gazprom due to the blocking of a supply route by Ukraine. Moscow has already halted the supply to Bulgaria and Poland, and the countries are incurring a gas supply shortage. They are endeavoring to hoard the supply before the advent of winter.

Russian sanctions came late Wednesday on Gazprom European subsidiaries, including Gazprom Germania. Moscow also extended the sanctions on the owner of the Polish part of the Yamal- one of the European pipelines carrying Russian gas. Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson of the Kremlin, said," They can't maintain the relations with the affected companies and nor can they supply the Russian has to them."

According to the Russian government website, the affected entities are those countries that have imposed severe sanctions on Russia, most of them being members of the European Union. Germany, the top importer of Russian gas, has claimed that the supply to Gazprom Germania is halted in Moscow.
