Kremlin Denies Putin Has Body Doubles and Spends Time in Nuclear Bunker, Calls it "Yet Another Lie

The Kremlin has once again denied rumors that Russian President Vladimir Putin has lookalike body doubles who act as stand-ins for the 70-year-old leader. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov addressed the matter during a recent speech, where he listed several fabrications about Russia.

"You have probably heard that he [Putin] has very many doubles who work instead of him while he sits in a bunker," Peskov said at a Moscow conference. "Yet another lie. His energy can only be envied. His health can, God willing, only be wished for. Of course, he doesn’t sit in any bunkers."

The Kremlin has repeatedly dismissed rumors that Putin, who has been Russia's top leader since 1999, is ill. The Chinese President Xi Jinping also showed his support during a recent state visit to Moscow. Jinping expressed his conviction that voters would support Putin again in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. However, Putin has not yet confirmed whether he will seek another term.

When Putin first came to power, he pledged to end the chaos that gripped post-Soviet Russia in the 1990s. However, the invasion of Ukraine has become the most serious military crisis any Kremlin chief has faced since the Soviet-Afghan war of 1979-89. The conflict in Ukraine has also ushered in the gravest confrontation with the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

Despite this, Putin has decided to pivot away from the West and towards China. The Kremlin's rejection of rumors about Putin's body doubles and supposed bunker usage is just one of many recent developments in the ongoing tensions between Russia and the West.
