China has begun trade sanctions against Taiwan

The US House speaker of the Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, is on a visit to Taipei, Taiwan, despite Beijing's continuous security threats.

China has maintained that Pelosi's visit is a "serious violation of the Chinese principle and the provisions of the three China-US joint communiques. It fears that this visit will gravely undermine and send a seriously wrong signal to the separatists forces for Taiwan independence."

Furious over this visit, China has now announced economic sanctions and import bans on several Taiwanese companies, including pastries, baked goods, and sweets.

China has temporarily banned the imports of products from multiple Taiwanese food companies; Taiwan's Council of Agriculture (COA) has confirmed that the blocked companies include producers of tea leaves, dried fruits, honey, cocoa beans, and vegetables, as well as catches from around 700 fishing vessels.
