Charanjit Singh Channi has resigned from the post of Chief Minister after the defeat of Congress in Punjab. He said that I have given my resignation to the Governor. He recommended the dissolution of the 15th Legislative Assembly. He asked me and the cabinet to stay till the swearing-in of the new government.
Charanjit Singh Channi requested the new government to continue with the previous schemes. Channi said that he accepts the mandate of the people. The people of Punjab have voted for change. Aam Aadmi Party government has been formed. Channi said that we will support the government, fulfill the promises that those people have made.
Significantly, in the 117-member assembly, the Aam Aadmi Party won 92 seats while the Congress was reduced to 18 seats. Charanjit Singh Channi lost both his seats. He had to face defeat at the hands of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Labh Singh Ugoke from Bhadaur seat in Barnala district.
Ugoke, contesting for the first time, defeated Channi by 37,558 votes. At the same time, Charanjit Singh of Aam Aadmi Party defeated him by about eight thousand votes from Chamkaur Sahib.
Let us inform that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has won a bumper victory in the Punjab Assembly Elections-2022. AAP has won 92 of the 117 seats in the assembly.
Born in the year 1963 in Bhajauli village of Kharar, Channi entered politics in the year 1992 when he was elected as a councillor. He became the President of Kharar Municipal Council in the year 2003. He made a place in the state assembly in the year 2007 as an independent MLA from Chamkaur Sahib.
He won the same seat in 2012 on a Congress ticket and became the Leader of the Opposition in the House. After being elected MLA for the third time in the year 2017, he got a place in Amarinder Singh's ministry.
He handled the departments of Technical Education, Industrial Training, Employment Generation and Tourism and Culture Affairs. He has BA degree. He has also done LLB from Panjab University and MBA from Punjab Technical University.
