Barça overwhelm Valencia; Ronald Araujo’s contract renewal is finalised

The Catalans remain in the Champions League spots in La Liga thanks to a magnificent first half and a sensational performance from the Gabonese attacker. Aubameyang is off to a fast start as an FC Barcelona goalscorer. Mestalla was the game when he came of age in a blaugrana jersey, scoring three of the four goals in a 4-1 win over Valencia. Chelsea are willing to wait until the summer to make a decision on Cesar Azpilicueta’s future. Azpilicueta’s current contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the conclusion of the 2021/22 season, and no formal moves have been made to extend the Spanish international’s contract at this time.

As club captain and a versatile defensive option, the 32-year-old remains a key player in Chelsea’s team, and the club wants to keep him. Pedri’s impact off the bench in Barcelona’s 4-1 triumph over Valencia at Mestalla on Sunday was praised by Xavi Hernandez. Pedri came in for the final half-hour, and his shot deflected off Pierre-EmerickAubameyang to give Barça their fourth goal at a time when Valencia threatened to come back. Barca found a way to put the ball in the back of the net, demonstrating that they have numerous weapons and arguments to improve their league standings and qualify for the Europa League round of 16.

When Eric Garcia was substituted at halftime in Mestalla’s victory, alarm bells went out. Oscar Mingueza came on in place of the defender. Garcia did not suffer a repeat of the muscular injury he had against Granada, but instead left the game with the team leading 3-0 due to an overload he felt. Barcelona prioritises the extension of Ronald Araujo’s contract. His current contract expires in 2023, and they want a new one in place by the end of the season. The two parties are nearing an accord.
