Trump sues the justice department

Former US President Donald Trump has asked a judge to freeze the justice department's investigation regarding the sizing of files from his Mar-a-Lago residence.

In this lawsuit, Trump's legal team has requested that an independent lawyer must be appointed to oversee the documents that the FBI agents seized a few days ago.

On the 8th of August, eleven sets of classified files were taken from his residence; Mr. Trump is being investigated for allegedly mishandling the documents. But Trump denied any wrongdoings and said the files were "declassified."

But in a 27-page document, Mr. Trump's legal team has accused the justice department's search of "simply wanting the camel's nose under the tent so that they could rummage for either politically helpful documents or supports efforts to thwart President Trump from running again."

Former President Donald Trump is the clear frontrunner in the 2024 Republican Presidential Primary and the 2024 general elections. While the team also said that "law enforcement is a shield that protects Americans, it cannot be used as a weapon for political purposes."

His lawyer said, "a shockingly aggressive move on Trump's residence by two dozens of FBI agents took place with no understanding of the distress it would cause to most Americans."

Mr. Trump's legal action was filed in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Monday before a judge nominated to the bench in 2020. He is suing for a more detailed list of what was taken from his estate. He is also asking the government to return any item, not in the scope of a search warrant, and his lawyers have also requested that "a neutral third party attorney" be appointed.
