"Remembering a Sad Day: Senior Democrats Gather to Mark 2nd Anniversary of Capitol Insurrection"

Senior Democrats on Friday led a large and moving gathering on the steps of the US Capitol in Washington to remember the "sad day" on the second anniversary of the deadly January 6 insurrection. Hundreds of members of Congress honoured five police officers whose lives were lost as a result of the violent assault in 2021.

That day, extremists spurred on by then-President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in an effort to block the official certification of Joe Biden's election victory. At the ceremony, tears flowed from many, including Nancy Pelosi. The former House speaker was forced to flee for safety two years ago as the mob rampaged through the Capitol, calling out for her and breaking into her office while her staff hid in fear.
