India’s external affairs minister S Jaishakar had a meeting with Wang Yi, he has said that peace at the borders areas with China has been the foundation of stable and cooperative ties between both countries.
“NO, our relationship with China in the present is not normal, given the presence of a large number of troops in the border areas, so as long there are very large deployments, the border situation is not normal.
We still have ongoing friction areas, and we have made some progress in resolving some friction areas including that of Pangong Tso. Our discussion today was how to take this forward. There have been 15 rounds of talks.”
S Jaishankar also said that the current situation is a “work in progress.”, obviously at a slower pace than desirable. This needs to be taken forwards since the completion of the disengagement at LAC. The restoration of normal ties will require restoration of normalcy in border areas.
