Napoli drew 1-1 with Cagliari in Serie A on Monday, with Victor Osimhen scoring a late equaliser.
In the 87th minute, Osimhen met Mario Rui’s cross with a bullet header, cancelling off Gaston Pereiro’s first goal for the hosts.
The Nigeria international started on the bench for Luciano Spalletti’s side before coming on as a 67th-minute substitution for Andrea Petagna.
Osimhen has now scored seven goals in 16 Serie A appearances this season, making it his 11th goal overall.
Meanwhile, Napoli’s Senegal centre-back KalidouKoulibaly played the entire match and received a yellow card in the 64th minute, while Algeria’s Adam Ounas was also pulled into the fray in the 67th minute.
With 54 points after 26 games, Napoli is now in third place in Serie A, two points behind leaders AC Milan.
Following three consecutive draws, Osimhen will look to inspire the Partenopeans to victory when they play Barcelona at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Thursday in the second leg of their Uefa Europa League match.
Last week’s first leg ended in a 1-1 tie at Camp Nou.
Meanwhile, Spalletti revealed that Osimhen was on the verge of missing Monday’s game.
“Despite having more possession, we never took control of the game.” They wanted to play this game here, while we wanted to play another.” We must be pleased with the outcome since it occurs to everyone following these Europa League games. “Don’t say it’s everyone anymore; every time it happens in two days, we lose 4-5 players.” Osimhen was fortunate to be available at the final second; else, he would have been out of the game.”
